It's often easiest to start a chart with a template and then delete any unused measures.

Charts are easier to follow when measures are the same size. (if space permits)
Whenever possible, I prefer to use a template that has either 4, 4-space measures in a line (system) or 8, 2-space measures in each line.
These choices are both available in the Editor:
New Song>48 Measures or 96 Measures
(remember to delete unused measures at the end before you save)
Sometimes to save space, I'll mix 4-bar and 8-bar lines, but for the musician trying to follow the chart on the fly, it's best to keep charts as "square" as possible. I also prefer to line-up the 1st and 2nd endings directly under each other by inserting blank space as needed.
The player-feature can follow an "ugly" chart and sometimes because of limited space on the single page, you have to compromise.
