You're right Matthew, the player-feature skips-over/ignores empty measures.
Also, when you want a chord to carry over from the previous bar and then change to a new chord in the middle of the bar, the player needs to see slashes on the carry-over beats. Without them, the player will sound a lone chord entered later in the measure on the first beat.
