My ears agree with you, that does happen a bit too frequently. I believe this has been explained before as programming the Player to approximate a "live" performance, where the bassist might not always play the root on the downbeat. (I'm thankful the drums aren't programmed to play too loud and rush...)
But something my ears like even less is, when you specify a particular root note for a passing chord, the bass hangs on that one note for the duration, e.g., in bar 2:

It might be time for the programmers to have a little chat with the bass Player.
