    it's not exactly the same as you omit the third and use the fourth instead of having the regular 1 b3 5 b7 b9 (if I'm not wrong ) but you're right, I can use 7b9sus to practice phrygian.

    my reference for the b3 was as part of the scale, but yes the voicing for the chord would have the sus 4.
