I thought it was time to revisit this old classic with some fresh changes.
The origin of the tune in the 1932 Maurice Chevalier film Love Me Tonight is told here. In the Woody Allen film Hannah and Her Sisters the character portrayed by Lloyd Nolan plays a tasteful arrangement of it on the piano.
I want to explain how lately I've been choosing passing chords. When a chord goes to another a third below, I've been using the passing bass note as the fifth of a dominant chord. For example, Eb∆ G7/D Cm7, Fm7 Ab7/Eb Dø, etc. The mini-modulation of the sound is interesting, and it's resonant due to the movement of the individual notes.
