Default Bass Plays Chord Roots Only?

Is there a style or setting so that the bass will play only the roots of the chord in the appropriate groove? For example, in a swing style if the chord was C7 the bass would simply play four C notes in the appropriate tempo/groove per measure of the chord (not a single sustained note as I believe is in fact possible). This would be a useful feature for ear training/learning tunes.

You can force the bass to pedal a designated note (even the chord's root) by adding a “slash” and the bass note you want to the chord.

It's possible to play a bass note only by using N.C. and the “invisible oval & slash”
