Default IRb on Android based 10" tablets - any experiences??

    Hey all!

I have the irealb on my Samsung Galaxy S2 and it works well, however I was wanting to purchase a tablet to use on gigs for the bigger display, ease of use etc.

Has anyone had any experience with one of these on a 10" tablet and how does it look. A lot of Android based apps that are available on phones either upscale themselves to suit the 10" tablet and it looks all pixelated and blocky or do not convert to the full screen properly.

I have had the pleasure of using the apple version on an ipad 2 and it looks fine, however I would prefer an android based tablet instead of the ipad. That said, the main use of the tablet will be for music, so if the 10" android tablets don't work out then maybe the ipad may have to be looked at!

    Cheers.

My GTab 10.1 works great for lead sheets. I use ES File Expiorer for the filing system. Later, Ray

Pixelation, no it is not blocky, we designed it for Android tablet size as well as small screens.

iPad, you might want to talk to other musicians who use other music-related iPad apps. Most of the pro-music apps on iPad are not available on Android (although in time some may become cross-platform.) However in general are there very few equivalents.

Here are a few apps (iPad) that could be of interest and available now:

    forscore
    unrealBook
    (PDF music readers)

    Garageband
    (recording, instruments, editing)

(and run a search here at the forum)

    Sampletank
    (midi app with sequencer, samples)
    http://ikmultimedia.com/sampletankipad/features/

    Drum School
    (teaching drum rhythms)
    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/drum-...414417836?mt=8

    On the path
(instrument lessons - Luis Conte, Jackson Browne, Scott Tennant, Russell Ferrante, Lee Ritenour, Ravi Shankar etc.)

    Amplitube
    AmpKit
    (guitar, recording)
    http://irealb.com/forums/showthread....ight=amplitube
(and run a search here at the forum)

    Notion
(music notation, composition, orchestral scoring, rock, jazz etc. Audio samples)
    http://itunes.apple.com/app/notion/id475820434?mt=8

    These:
    Symphony Pro (notation composition)
    Avid Scorch (Sibelius score reader)
    FiRe (pro recording)
    iKaossilator (Korg Kaoss pad app)
    Progression (guitar, tab, composition, player)
    AnyTune pro (slow down/pitch, loops)

as well as interesting music related apps like:
    History of jazz
    Woodstock

    Biophilia (Bjork's music/app)

I find audio latency to be the big problem with the Android operating system. (The delay you get from the time you hit a note and hear the sound). This is less of an issue for apps like iReal b that only do playback. On Android things will improve in the future, but for now an iPad seems to be a better choice for music.

Also look at recording and music-related hardware items for iPad.
(The Dock is used by different manufacturers for digital audio in/out, midi etc.)

    Apogee Jam
    IK Multimedia iRig midi
    Alesis IO dock
    iConnectMidi
Cambridge Audio iD100 (TOSLink out, S/PDIF etc.)
    Tascam iM2 (stereo condenser mic)

    IK Multimedia iKlip
    K&M iPad 2 stand holder
Apple digital AV adapter (HDMI out)

(very few equivalents on Android to date - Dec 2011, however there are some generic tablet holders for mic stands etc. coming out now.)

My Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (without 3G) works also very well with Irealb. Only once I had a problem, that the IrealB app asked for Internet for a senseless update or whatever and then it didnīt start - but this is some months ago. Now on Android 4 it works also very well.
On such a 10" Tab you could also display PDFs as Leadsheets, the only thing when live playing is: to scroll to a 2nd page is quite slow. I think the PDF readers should be improved, to display 2 Pages in parallel (10" wide).

The android app MobileSheets (designed for sheet music) will load a PDF into memory so tapping for the next page is quite quick. It also has an option to turn the pages of the PDF into separate image files for fast loading if necessary. It works well for iReal b charts - although no transposing

iReal b v1.5 update has landscape viewing implemented. This gives me the idea you might be able to export two iReal charts to computer, use Photoshop (or similar) to create one landscape page with the two pages side-by-side, then view in landscape in your PDF app.
