There is no chord quality using the word 'major' since it would take up too much room in a beat.
Use this symbol from the computer keyboard:
    ^
    (shift-6)
It converts to the triangle which is used as the symbol for major.
There is a built-in 7b9 but does use the brackets (parenthesis) to save room.

For iReal b for Mac, you can select from the menu, first the letter name of the chord, then again the chord quality; or use the computer keyboard to enter in the symbols required (use hyphen for minor, lowercase b for the flat sign.)

Doesn't the triangle mean Major 7?
I've noticed a few people use the triangle with the Major 7.
Besides being redundant I think it could be confused as a dim 7 when read as chord chart on a gig.
