I don't know much about Carl Paige Wood (1885-1947).

He was head of the music department at the University of Washington for apparently a long time. He even offered Bela Bartok in 1942 a visiting professorship, so Bartok could study the music of Northwestern Native Americans. (Bartok had other commitments for the next year or so, and after that was too ill to take up the offer.)

Wood wrote Bells of Washington to a poem by Edmond S. Meany. It was brisk, but somewhat reverential.

I've turned it into a very pretty jazz ballad, taking a few liberties with the harmony and the penultimate bar of the melody. I've put it in Double-Time Feel.

My lead sheet can be found here.
