Whenever I chart a new version of an existing tune I have to title it with a "1" or an "A" even if I delete the original. The app tells me the song title is already in use. How do I completely get rid of the original so this issue goes away?

You could try clearing your trash-list (it's found at the top of the playlists page)

If you delete a chart from your main song library, it should also be removed from any playlists.
When you remove/delete a chart from a playlist, it depends on your actions if it is deleted(trash) or just removed from the playlist.

You can edit a title that has a number to include a different description or code instead of a number.
You could simply add a period/dot [.] at the end.
