Is there a limit in the number of bars allowed when I select blank from the drop down box in new songs?

No difference from any other template. Actually you can have up to 16 measures along one system if you need to, although there is only room for one chord to be in each measure. (The 96 measure template give you 8 across.)
You can easily add barlines to the left or right of any space where the cursor is in any song; and and use the insert or delete buttons to adjust spacing and measure length.
There is a normal limit of 12 systems down, but some manage workarounds to add more below this.

For now we do not recommend more than 12 systems.
