dflat, I tried to put a pic under Edit Avatar, but it wouldn't let me do anything. Is that the right place to put it?

    Yes...
User control panel>Settings & Options>Edit Avatar, click on Use Custom Avatar, Choose file.
    (use jpg or png)

    Also enable viewing of Avatars:
User CP>Settings & Options>Edit options>Thread Display Options, check Show Avatars...then Save changes (at bottom).

(Bob, I moved your query post to this forum.)

It still won't let me download the pix. Even tho it's reduced to 45 x 34px.

    Your avatar is showing.
Edit Avatar should show you your current avatar in the avatar box.
Make sure you follow the second instruction in previous post - to turn on seeing avatars...make sure you Save changes after selecting it.
Also you could click on - Do not use Avatar>Save changes which should delete your current one, then Use Custom Avatar>Choose file... to upload it again.

If png, try jpg. And there is a max. file size.
Read instructions on the Avatar upload page.

Yes, I saw the avatar pic (rose). That's weird, because it told me the upload failed. So this morning I deleted it and tried a new pic. Again it told me the upload failed. However, when I exited the site and came back, the pic was there.

Hi Bob, that is a bit odd as I have run some tests a few times with no problems. I was uploading from a file in my computer, not URL. Are you using URL? (if so, try an image on your computer.)
