Wish You Were Here - Harold Rome
"Wish You Were Here," with music and lyrics by Harold Rome, is the title song from the 1952 Broadway production. It was a big hit for Eddie Fisher in the same year; that performance is available on Youtube. The tune has a 32-bar ABAC form. It is noteworthy for its alternation of the tonic chord in major and minor in the A sections. A lead sheet can be found in the Ultimate Fake Book by Hal Leonard.
I remember enjoying this song as a young boy and I think it is too lovely to be forgotten. As I play for (and am a member of) the Medicare set, I wrote a chord chart for use on gigs. I play it as a slow rhumba with the Latin - Cuba: Bolero style at 90 bpm.
