I will try your suggestion this evening and report back. I am using a new iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1.2.

Tried it but can't get it to work. I start Garageband then click ireal pro from the inter-app. I then start Garageband recording and switch to Ireal Pro and tap play. Nothing happens.

It looks like GarageBand on iPhone has a means for doing this by using the Inter-App Audio Apps which is listed as an instrument. However I have not been able to determine how this feature is used.
