Jigs seem problematic in iRP. I've tried using the Jazz even 8ths style in 6/8 for Banish Misfortune. Best I could find.
Banish Misfortune - Traditional
Nice. I'm not used to playing it with the F7sus harmony (Bb not B natural). The extra chord movement in bar 13 is nice as well.
Obrigado.
Please count me in as a requester for a jig style with strummed guitar as well.
I tried to put in the stops - some of the chord cliches and some bass line motion.
With all that - the intro is still a little dodgy but I think everything else is pretty successful.
Receita de...
Is there a good way to request specific styles? I'm thinking some of the lesser known Brazilian styles like:
Maxixe
Tango Brasileiro
Choro-lento
Forro
and a reversed samba pattern (samba is a...
the closest rhythm pattern I could find was jazz even 8ths in 3/4. I tried to get the bass movement correct.
Santa Morena - Jacob do Bandolim
There is an intensive choro workshop at Centrum in Port Townsend, WA. I think it's the last week of April. Many of the instructors fly up from Brasil - and are very supportive and knowledgable....
i tried to add stops and more bass movement - and put in the turnaround in bars 15-16 that my friend from Brasillia plays
Noites Cariocas - Jacob do Bandolim
Cronban - you are welcome.
What instrument do you play? I'm alternating between melodica, nylon string guitar and piano.
The autocorrect is driving me crazy :-%
my take on the chords and bassline for this choro.
Sonoroso - K. Ximbinho
I found a tune with your cadence. The intro to Jobim's tune - Dindi.
Bars 7 8 and 9. Dm9 G13 Ebmaj7.
Cheers.
Good luck with your search. The common tone between Cmaj and Ebmaj would be G. So the standard ii Vx I resolving ii Vx mIII deceptively would have melody not on G.
I'm interested to know what you...
Oh - now that I'm at a piano I see what you are doing.
This is a fairly common ending cadence if the melody ends on the root. I use it in Darn That Dream - key of G. Last cadence: Am7 D7 Gmaj7....
Think of your G7b9 as being an Ab diminished chord with a G bass. If you would shift the bass note only to Bb then you would have Abdim/Bb aka a Bb7b9 - which would be the dominant for Eb major. The...
The first thing that comes to mind is the bridge to Rodgers and Hart's "My Heart Stood Still" as in Chuck Sher's Standards book. The progression is F- Bb7 G7(b9 #5) Cmaj7. The Bb dominant and the G7...
My take on Pixinguinha's classic tune. With some bass lines thrown in.
1x0 - Pixinguinha
Hi Cronban
I have checked out some of your charts. I have a couple of comments.
First, I find the 4/4 meter works best. For the even eighth patterns like samba there are 8 1/8th note high...
another choro - with some baselines and inversions. From Chediak Choro 3 - works well with samba or jazz even 8ths.
I apologize for the longish form.
Naquele Tempo - Pixinguinha

This is great. Cronban - did you notice my Tico-tico no Fubá chart from a bit earlier.
I'm a jazz piano guy that's been dabbling in nylon string guitar playing. So many choros - so little time....
Jacob do Bandolim's classic choro.
Doce de Coco - Jacob do Bandolim
A choro by Paulinho da Viola from Chediak's Choro book - volume 1
Beliscando - Paulinho da Viola
Great song. Isn't the composer Ary Barroso?
