we would have to all pay copyright if the melodies were included. This has been discussed in other threads. e.g.

I use the editor a lot and often find that I am repeatedly entering the same set of chord changes (when repeats don't apply). If there was a cut and paste function for chord changes (like there is for text) that would be really helpful. Thanks!

In the web editor, http://irealbook.net/editor/ I've found that I can highlight multiple measures by using left-click/hold/drag. Then click "copy" (located next to "Insert Beat") Click on the beat where you want to place the beginning of your copied material, then click one of the "Paste" buttons below "copy".
If you are copying the first line, you'll find that you've also copied the time-signature and rehearsal mark.
Both can easily be deleted from your pasted material by selecting the initial beat and clicking the "X" in the appropriate section.
Clicking on the little blue "?" offers this help:
iReal Book Web Editor Help: Copy and Paste
Drag the mouse across the bars and beats of the song that you want to select. (The Copy and Cut buttons will remain grayed out and disabled until you make a selection).
Press the Copy button to copy the content of the selection into memory or the Cut button to copy the content of the selection into memory and delete the selection.
Click on the location in the song where you want to paste and press one of the two Paste buttons.
Paste-Over will copy the selection over the existing bars and beats starting at the current position of the cursor.
Paste-Insert will copy the selection at the current position of the cursor pushing forward the rest of the song. (Parts of the chart that are pushed beyond the allowed 12 staves will be lost).
Hope you enjoy using the editor and contributing to the forum,
:))BOB
As Bob suggested, use the Web editor (or Mac editor) for more efficient preparation of your chart. Currently the editor functions inside iReal Book itself are more limited, and do not have copy/paste. It has been on our todo list for a while, so might appear in a future update.
Having that feature would be real nice as I find myself using my iPhone to edit songs more than a computer.
Some ideas:
1. Alphabetic selector slider in the playlists.
2. When importing... ability to select playlist to add to
3. Ability to delete any tune from the master list not just the ones I add
4. Ability to import tabledit files
5. Ability to Create TAB or Melody (this wouldn't violate copyright as you're not providing it, but allowing ability to add)
6. Include the supplied tunes in the backup.
Web Editor
1. ability to default the 16 bars (A/B) to already have the repeats for (AA BB) tunes.
2. ability to clone
3. When entering the identifying information the return key should take you to the next input field in the following order (Title, Composer, Style, Key)
Great Application.

Voice recognition to call up tunes would be nice.
I created a playlist of about 150 tunes to call on gigs. It would be nice to see the list in 2 or 3 rows rather than having to scroll down one long vertical list.
Hello Beskrone, are you referring to iPhone/iPod touch or iPad? (we have more room on the iPad to do this with of course.)
A suggestion in the meantime would be to split your playlist alphabetically - like A to G, G to M or whatever. Also I have used the Search feature (no need to type in the whole title, just a word) on a gig and I find it quite fast. It is at the top of Song index.
Hi Dflat,
I'm using the iPhone app. Splitting the playlist into smaller sizes alphabetically is an ok quick fix. But on a gig, it's nice to see a whole list or most of a list at a glance. Is it even possible to do columns on the iPhone? I know it's smaller than the iPad but it could help find tunes faster. Is voice recognition a possiblity?
Been using the app on the iPhone for a while and just got an iPad. I'm surprised at the resolution. It appears to just be the iPhone page scaled up. Not sharp and crisp. Other pages with text, forums, etc are in the native iPad res. When will we see the main music pages upgraded to the higher res of the iPad
Is there any chance of getting alternate chord symbols available for major 7, diminished, etc chords. There is a global substitution corn using either - or m for minor. How about the same thing for diminished (dim), half diminished (m7b5), and major 7 (maj7), chords. The graphic symbols currently used are not as widely used in the USA as in other countries. Many players are not familiar with these.
Otherwise I love it.
Thanks
Burt
Can't we have a melodies add-on as an optional purchase? It's a great tool for us drummers to practice with but it gets very dull without the melodies
If both chords and melody are published, the songs are subject to copyright and the 900 included with the app would be worth, what, about $5 each?
It would be great to display guitar chord shapes
If we can't print the melody :n: could it be possible to load our own midi file from an external source  than the embedded one ?
Sources might be midi files ... open the box !
(ps : great job)
If I were updating this code, my first new feature would be to make my iPad or iPhone remember, for each tune I play in Player, what tempo, style, key, number of repetitions I set the last time. They would still be changeable in Player, but the default would be whatever I did last.
Optionally, that info could be encoded in the song uploads too, so I could play someone elses tune the same way they intended, then change thoses settings to taste.
But it might be better to leave them as local settings on each persons own machine.

Hi Steve, we have something like this in mind but it would have required complete re-design and we wanted to get the basic Player out to you all quickly. We also would have the Mac editor and Web editor to update at the same time so it is quite a big task. Have fun with what we have for now and keep on coming up with more ideas! Thanks for your thoughts.
:)
Hi -- First, I need to say that the new Player feature is simply outstanding! To think you've added this impressive feature for free to the iReal Book app shows your true dedication to your subscribers. My hat's off to you! I'm very grateful for this feature.
I've been using the Player now for about two weeks and I've thought of a few ideas I'd like to add to the wish-list. These functions would further enhance the Player as both a learning and a gig tool. Again, thanks for an excellent program!
Wish-list functions:
Automatically be able to play through the song list -- or move to next song in the list and pause until the play button is hit.
A larger Start button on control panel so it's easier to hit. (The scroll number information at the top of the panel could be put at bottom making more room at the top to enlarge the Start button).
Be able to scroll both forward and backward in the tempo bar (i.e. 1 Ballad Swing, 2 Ballad Even, 3 Slow Swing, etc.) This could be done by placing a minus and plus sign at the left and right side of the long tempo bar.
The next few suggestions may require a narrow bar be placed at the bottom of the control panel. This may not be as viable for the iPhone, but it would be great on the larger iPad format. I suspect more people will using the iPad as time goes on:
-- "Stop", "Pause", "Backup to Previous Song" and "Forward to Next Song" buttons on the chart page to quickly maneuver through a song list.
-- "Repeat a Song" button.
-- The name of the next song in the playlist in the lower right corner of the chart page so you know what song you're heading into during live gigs.
Thanks for listening, and thanks for this great Player!
I'd like to see:
> sortable playlists
> a remove duplicates feature for songs and playlists. Including the ability to compare differences and merge changes.
Thanks! Great app.
Not sure what you mean, but you are able to rearrange the order of the playlists in Playlists>Edit, dragging the handle on the right up or down.

Help>iOS>Playlists
If you are importing a playlist and a song already exists in iReal book, it will not be imported. If the title is the same but different chords, it will be imported, re-named (with a -1 or -2 etc.) and that playlist adjusted to point to the renamed song so it still works as you would want it.
You can use the Web editor or Mac editor to merge and edit playlists.
Currently not possible in iReal book (v3.0.1). (Even when implemented it may be still easier to do this with the other editors.)
In Playlists>Edit you can delete any un-needed playlists (does not delete the songs referred to, so if you want to do this, use this Playlist first to find those (user) songs, delete them, then delete the playlist name.)
You cannot delete any library songs. And careful you do not delete any user songs in that playlist that other playlists might still need.
I hope this might help in the meantime.
Hi and thanks for the ireal book, it is a great tool for practice. I do however miss some chords like the m7#5 and m13, which is used quite frequently in modern jazz. Using the mb6 chord does not work at all, since it is a different chord.
I understand that you can't provide melodies, but it would be great if there was a possibility to add a link to each song to an address where one can hear the full song, e.g a video on youtube. Maybe one could even keep the chords in the foreground so that one can read it while the song plays on youtube.
My ireal b features wish list:
1) The ability to push chord changes by a 16th or an 8th note. Also an ability to tie a chord over the barline as to prevent it from doing the really silly sounding redundant restatement of the chord in the following bar.
2) An interface that allows you to notate rhythmic hits or accents. These hits would be interpreted differently depending on style, maybe even the option to select which instruments follow the written hits. Rhythmic hits are a major part of contemporary music totally ignored in this app which discourages me from adding a lot of songs that I know will come out virtually unrecognizable.
3) The ability to select individual styles on each instrument track and set the swing ratio for each style. This would dramatically increase the creative possibilities for any user especially if these stylistic combos could be saved as custom styles. Maybe something like that could be covered in some sort of companion app.
4) More styles! If they can be designed in some sort of piano roll mode, I could churn out a couple hundred of them for you. I've been programming software instruments for 15 years and I'm well studied in theory and composition.
I have a large body of work that one could reference if one were so inclined to ascess my abilities. Any style, any era, I can give you multiple variations on it.
I'm sure that I probably have some unrealistic desires here because I know that a phone is still only a phone and can only do so much but these are the things I'd want to see worked toward as the surrounding technologies continue to grow.
I'm serious about the styles. These are decent but I could deliver some killer styles!
3)
Hi, this is a small list of changes I would be happy to see in iRealb:
- pasting text anywhere on the score, w/ the option of variable fontsizes
- barnumbers
- solving text overlapping w/ slash chords (ie, paste ´Fine´right below the chord A/C#)
- section definition A1, A2, A3 etc
- adding to a style (ie, slow bossa) a tempo indication (ie, quarternote = 100)
- more barlines per page (12 bar limit...)
- in the print dialogue: score should be printed starting right on top of the page instead of in the middle (printing a blues: the score sits right in the middel of the page)
Will be continued...
