Symbols>Miscellaneous Symbols has the quarter note (crochet), 8th note (quaver), paired 8th and paired 16th (semi-quavers). There is no single 16th.
For a half-note (minium) use the lowercase letter 'd'.
There is a bigger dot than the usual full stop (from your computer keyboard) in Misc. Symbols at the end.
You can use these symbols for any chart for yourself but we would prefer NOT having this notation in forum uploads. Eventually we hope to implement our own rhythm notation for iReal book and related software - Mac editor, Web editor and possibly Android platform as the technique described here is not very satisfactory at all.

I have been using these symbols ♪♩ v ♫ ♬ ♪‿ ��♩. ♪♩♪ ♩ ♫‿ which worked fine until I upgraded to Yosemite on my Mac. Now I can read them on charts I made before the upgrade, but cannot edit them, and cannot use them in new charts I create. Any suggestions?
When will the rhythm notation for iReal book be implemented?
It would be great to be able to include rhythm notation in the text field to show accents etc. Sixteenth, eighth, quarter, half and whole notes, and their rests. And groups of eighth and sixteenth notes beamed together.
This would be handy for charts for live musicians to read, even if the Player was not able to read them.
It has nothing to do with Yosemite. Many symbols were disabled on the current versions of iRP because they might interfere with the file code. I, too, would like the ability to use these and other symbols restored.Quote:

Deciding on a set of symbols is the easiest part. The hard part is to develop a way so that the symbols can be correctly placed over the bars and retain their positions regardless of platform, fonts and sizes.
Any update on this? I can no longer get the "EDIT menu>Special Characters" technique to work at all, and if I copy symbols from Luis Moreno's chart, they won't paste into mine.
Is there a way of indicating a chord falling on an offbeat? This would be handy for charts for live musicians to read, even if the Player was not able to read them.
I don't have trouble copying rhythm symbols.
I use a Unicode character map app to select and copy the ones I need.
The only problem with this is that it's only possible to use simple rhythms (quarter notes, eighth notes). And also, it might not display the same way on different OS or OS version.
So yes, a standard system to display rhythm would be great!

I filled out the survey... and liked a couple of options there. Not sure if that is still being monitored.
Main concerns; Some sort of notation font — if only to indicate, hits, accents etc would be great.
Also thought the option to print/pdf versions with blank staff lines with the chords written above like a lead sheet/fakebook would be super handy. Mostly for original tunes I’m writing.
If the staff lines could work with the note font that would be an “Epic” bonus. IMO There are zero good options for writing notation on mobile devices right now... I feel like if anybody could do it right iReal could. Keep it simple and intuitive as you do... and I’d imagine it could really broaden the market for the app. But anything at this point would be a big step up.

Is there any update on this? When will Ireal implement it's own rhythm notation? Even if it's for musicians but not played by the Player?
I just spent the last while trying to copy and paste rhythm markings from older charts but it seems it is not possible. The addition of this feature would be a huge step forward for making good charts for gigs. The chords alone don't really help the drummer / rhythm sec. know what to do! Please make this happen (even if not supported by playback) Thanks; Love the app :)
Yes, looking forward as well for such feature. As for now the only way is to copy and paste some Unicode musical rhythm symbols, but spacing is not consistent across OS (Android, iOs). I've noticed that additional new musical symbols have been added from Android version 8. However, for some reasons iReal pro doesn't allow to paste those new symbols 😩
I am wondering if this is a new feature which hasn’t been anounced or I am not aware of yet. I was fully surprised to see a chart with the kicks on top when I had find the chart I was looking for by coincidence .... Is this a trick created by some geek head or ireal pro supports creating kicks now ???

Unfortunately, it's not a new feature (yet). It's just a workaround. I've uploaded that chart.
The trick is to use a Unicode character app (where you can select any available glyphs on Android), then copy and paste the needed symbols as text annotation. However, for some reasons, IRP restricts the use of some characters (particularly music symbols) and they just won't be displayed. So the choice is quite limited.
Also, spacing between characters is not consistent across different devices, OS version, etc... So they might not always be displayed at the right place
Nice to meet some other good musicians who are meticulous when it comes to writing charts. Thanks for the upload bro it really helped us a lot. I believe thanks to you it was the first time ever this song was played in my country ;) I wonder why it takes so long for the developers to include this feature to the app itself . They could use the source code or make a collaboration with the rhythm reading app developer on the IOS platform. I use it for practicing Sight reading kicks... It looks like it takes a lot of effort to just make it look like there are kicks there... I wont even bother because I don't have a Mac ;) Lets bombard the developers with this feature request so that they might prioritize this :)Quote:

Generally the device's that can input these have been Android.
We do not know of any workarounds for iOS devices, however someone might post here who has been able to do this.
I see some charts with little red eighth notes or quarter notes. How do I find those? Thanks!
On Android, using an unicode database app to search, select, copy and paste any symbols (musical or others) into iReal Pro as text comments.

Anyway, it's just a workaround.
As long as you always use the same device, it works fine. On other devices, it might not display properly (different character spacing, font size can affect the layout). For sharing to others, I often export to PDF so the layout will look the same as in my device
