Audiobus compatibility

Greetings,

This is my first post here. I've searched for info on the Multitask thread, but could not find what I was looking for. So, here are my questions:

1. Does iReal Pro have interapp Audio support? In other words, I'd like to play my midi keyboard using Sampletank while looking at the lead sheet in iReal Pro. I do have Audiobus as well. When I try to switch apps, ALL audio from iReal Pro and Sampletank.

Also, is it possible to substitute the midi sounds being played in iReal Pro with sounds from another app (Sampletank, iGrand, etc) this would go a long way in making the songs more realistic!

Thanks so much for the reply. I wanted to be able to use Sampletank sounds in the iReal Pro app.

BTW: I see from your post that you are in Portland, Or. I was most blessed to have been born and raised there....I really miss it!

As you have discovered, to view the chart in iReal Pro while using another audio app is possible. The other app must have the ability to have its audio playing in the background (iReal Pro will allow this through).

Here is a slightly related thread, although it mainly refers to running iReal Pro's player in the background, while using another app for viewing a chart (like a notation chart, or lyrics) which is the opposite of what you are doing. I mention it here for anyone interested:

(make sure Settings>Background audio is ON). You might like to use this for practicing - run some songs with iReal Pro's player/chart showing but use iGrand as your midi sound in the background.

For what you are doing, inter-app Audio support nor Audiobus is necessary, just having background audio within both apps (the foreground app allowing it through; the background app sending it out; most now do both) is sufficient.

I imagine there have been other posts on this but I can't find any. Ireal Pro does all sorts of weird display funkiness when routed through Audiobus (ios 8.1.) anyone know whether this is an iReal issue or Audiobus? If iReal is it on the needs-to-be-fixed list?

There have been a number of updates of Audiobus recently. We have fixed the problems in the iReal Pro update being released very soon (v6.1)

It seems that irealpro is no longer compatible with audiobus 3. I can't start irealpro within audiobus. Does anyone get the same experience? IPhone 6s ios 11.3.

I can confirm it also won't load in AUM as IAA node unfortunately. Please look into fixing this! Thanks :-)

Unfortunately it won't load as an IAA node in AUM either. Please fix this :-)

Just tested it and it works fine as an input with Audiobus 3.

Definitely not working here on iPhone SE, iOS 11.2.6, latest versions of iReal Pro, AUM and Audiobus. On iPad it works sometimes... I sent an email to support.

Open Audiobus, then select iReal Pro as input. Select a song in iReal Pro and start playback. After that it shows up correctly in Audiobus.

Sometimes it works perfectly, other times not, it seems.

Is the problem it will not load (Tap to fix?)
We have had this in the past with previous versions of AB v3, (whereas v2 worked reliably each time). We have noticed this with iReal Pro and various other apps either as Input or other apps loading in Effect, so it seemed to affect a number of apps, not just iReal Pro. Each app would either load easily, or would get the ‘Tap to fix’ error.
Often we got them to load by following the error instructions, force quitting the app, force quitting AB, opening apps first then AB (or vice versa), reboot device, and various other similar combinations to get them all loading.

(We also noticed that some apps had not been updated for a year or two so presumably were coded originally for previous versions of AB, sometimes loading, other times, not.)

With recent minor updates, either related to iOS, or AB or both, we noticed an improvement in loading, especially iReal Pro, although sometimes it is not perfect. And there are still problems loading other apps into AB also.

The results are the same with AUM (Reload errors). I’ve noticed iReal Pro will load, or if not, the error message shows, and usually the instructions for loading it work. I get this happening with other apps loading in AUM also.

Obviously it’s frustrating if you want to load a number of different apps into AB as some will load than others, but vary randomly each time you try it. I’m not sure the order of loading each app (input and effects) makes any difference either.

Since AB v2 worked in a better way, hopefully they will find a way to make this more reliable.
AudioBus provide connection code for audio developers to use within their apps and as this is updated, we update it in iReal Pro so it complies with their app.

Have you tried the error message procedures that come up when there is an error? (Sometimes they do not work until you play around with it for a while.)
And do other apps sometimes error when loading into Input or Effect too?

I can’t use last update of ireal pro (8.3.0) with audiobus 3. I tried everything.

In iOS 11.4 there were many changes to the audio settings by Apple. In order to fix the AirPlay compatibility issues with iReal Pro, we had to change it on our end as well so currently it doesn't work with Audiobus 3.
You should still be able to use your instruments and effects while iReal Pro plays in the background or in split screen.

If you record with GarageBand or similar apps, export your iReal Pro backing tracks in WAV format which is now a very fast process.
Then select 'Audio Copy' from the share sheet options and paste it into GarageBand.

I've poked around the forums a bit and have found that it's a known problem that iRealB no longer works with Audiobus3 or AUM. The last post on the issue was from a year ago or so. Does anyone know if/when this issue will be fixed? Thanks for any info.

Hello, unfortunately we will not be adding this in again, at least at the moment because of technical problems. We may revisit this in the future as various things change, but for now, no, sorry.

I want to output midi files from iReal Player Pro 2019.7 to Garage Band for iOs using an iPad mini 4 running 13.3.1. to do this easily, I purchased Audiobus 3 for the iPad but I am sad to note that iReal Player is not on the list of supported input devices. Have I wasted my money buying Audiobus 3?

iReal Pro had to drop support for AudioBus a few years ago sorry.
You might be able to ask Apple for a refund for Audiobus if you are not using it for anything else.

I read that iReal dropped the audiobus3 support. anyone knows of another app that help combinar ireal and another music app (e.g. GarageBand?)

It’s a huge shame that irealb isn’t fixing this issue asap. Like 99.9% other music apps support inter-app/au to work with daw/audiobus systems. This is very embarrassing to see a famous app falling behind in the modern mobile music production industry.

I ask for nothing more. Looks like it used to work but not anymore, and this is very frustrating. Thank you. A true legendary app like this should have inter-app or au support in 2020!!!

Yeah, after getting the recent update some days ago (thanks for that!) I am really disappointed that this functionality is again missing! I found this thread after observing on my iPad that iRealPro is not found in the list of input apps offered by Audiobus (v 3.4.44).

Too bad that, it would be very useful.

I wonder what the nature of the issue really is, and if effort/coordination could solve it.

I hope someday this can be remedied.

We are so close to having a superb ecosystem on the iPad, but without iRP we are not yet there!

Whether via Interapp Audio, or via Audio Units, (or both), it would be highly desirable here in the field for iRP to be able to fully participate in a unified way that allows level mixing and one-touch switching between all the apps that a user is using at once.

For example, I can open Loopy Pro, add Launchpad and Geoshred, mix all 3 levels from Loopy Pro, and go back-and-forth between Loopy Pro and either Geoshred or Launchpad with a single touch on a nicely presented icon of sufficient size.

To make one specific case, I note that Geoshred offers superb physically modeled sax, clarinet, trumpet, etc. that are a wonderful compliment to the "jazz band" of iRP.

Of course, iRP has many styles, and can be used for many different flavors of song/chord-progression, so even though "jazz" may be primary, there are actually many further uses.

The KEYS for unfettered live performance are being able to easily create a good mix from a single location (e.g. Loopy Pro, or Audiobus) and to be able to immediately and seamlessly switch from one app to another (e.g. to be able to bring the desired app to the front in order to control it, to "play" it).

The particular example I offer above (Loopy Pro, Launchpad and Geoshred) works really well, and proves that this is technically possible. In this case, iRP would take the place of Launchpad (i.e. be the primary backing band).

I sincerely hope you can consider the power and desirability of such capabilty for iRP and reconsider to make the necessary effort to accomplish this.
