    Hi daylate, welcome to the forums.
    What you describe are the standard music notation symbol, section-repeat brackets. They are used (in pairs)to instruct both the musician and the player feature that the measures included between the brackets are to be repeated. A text notation (3x, 4x, etc.) can be added, usually beneath the last bar in the section to increase the number of repeats.

    In your app they can be highlighted red (optional) to make them more visible to the musician. That is controlled in "settings".

    Repeat brackets, single, double and final bar-lines along with other symbols are placed on charts using the editor, on the editor page, the symbols are not highlighted red.
