    Default You Don't Remember Me - Lane-Winzeler

You Don't Remember Me is a lovely bitter-sweet ballad sung rather over the top by Diane Schuur and more subtley by Marjorie Barnes.

What a beautiful song. I'm embarrassed to admit I was completely unfamiliar with it. Is the composer Burton Lane? I ask because it is not listed under his name on the "Songwriters Hall of Fame" website. I will soon be posting a chord chart to another song about a lost romance, so stay tuned…

You've missed a very hot June here in the NYC area.

    Regards,

    Keith

    Keith,

No, it's not Burton Lane. Here's the info I found about the tune:

YOU DON'T REMEMBER ME (Legal Title)
    BMI Work #1717274

    Songwriter/Composer / Current Affiliation / CAE/IPI #
    LANE STEPHEN EVANS / BMI / 201301845
    WINZELER RICHARD W / ASCAP / 48339464

    Publishers
    CHEDDAR CHEESE MUSIC BMI 226982739
STEVE EVANS LANE MUSIC BMI 218771359

I had never heard of the tune until a friend asked for a lead sheet for it on the All About Jazz Forum back in 2008. Despite the listing of two publishers, I could find no record of it actually being published, which surprised me, as it's so sophisticated and poignant. So I transcribed it from the Schuur recording, with a few harmonic changes.

I had forgotten about it until now. I was looking for good torch songs for a cabaret I want to do with a couple of singers and then I remembered it.

This is the beginning of the rainy season in Pátzcuaro. It will be hot most days and then rain for an hour or two in the afternoon, although sometimes it's cloudy all day and mildly chilly. Our dry summer is mid-April to mid-June, when it gets really hot.

I'm quite happy to miss New York summers and winters ...

    Cheers,
    Jer
